GR8 Employee Spotlight: Get to Know Andrew Fricke

Get to know Site Reliability Engineer Andrew Fricke, who plays a critical role on the Operations team at GR8 People.

What’s your role at GR8 People?

I’m a site reliability engineer, which means I maintain the operations of our entire technical infrastructure. I’m responsible for the day-to-day operations and health of our systems and networks. I also support our development team to ensure that they can do their jobs effectively. We work together to explore new technologies that help make our application run more efficiently and securely.

What’s your favorite thing about working at GR8 People?

I love getting to work with the latest and GR8est technology. I’ve gotten to learn the ins and outs of our systems and new technologies that we’re using in our tech stack. It’s really fun getting to work with cutting edge technology and high scale web applications.

I spend a lot of time monitoring our systems to spot any issues to ensure they don’t become problems. We are constantly looking to improve upon our performance and user experience within our application. I enjoy contributing to that process and helping GR8 People become the best talent platform from a technology standpoint. I also really love the people I work with.

What is something about you that would surprise people?

I had some really fun jobs when I was younger. One job in particular was working at a floating hot dog stand in the middle of the Delaware River. People that were tubing down the river would stop there for lunch. I got to meet tons of people and it was a GR8 summer job.

Something else that might surprise people about me is that I love to travel. The best place I’ve ever traveled to was India. It was such an interesting trip getting to learn a different culture and trying all the different foods. I hope to do some more traveling over the next couple of years.

I also love soccer and I’m a season ticket holder for the Philadelphia Union, so I really enjoy attending their home games as well as some of their away games. I was able to go to one of their games in Canada once, which was really cool!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m a craft beer connoisseur. I’m always looking to try new, interesting beers and I enjoy going to breweries and tap rooms. I’m also a foodie, so going out and trying new restaurants and cuisines is a hobby for me. I like to cook too and I’m constantly looking for fun recipes to try. I’m currently learning how to make my own bread and hope to start perfecting my recipes.
